MACOMB - Margaret S. Harn, 60, of Macomb passed away and peacefully transitioned into the next world at 5:19 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11, 2014, at UnityPoint Health-Methodist in Peoria, Ill.

She was born April 28, 1954, in Macomb, Ill., to John and Dorothy (Roberts) McKee. She married Jack T. Harn Jr. on June 30, 1979, in Macomb. He is deceased.

She was preceded in death by her father and one son, Jackson Harn.

Surviving Margaret are Scott and Mindy Harn (special nephew and niece) of Cuba, Ill. Also surviving are her four special "grandkids," Jahni Harn, Josie Harn, Duncan Harn and Dyllan Harn. They were the world to her. She is also survived by her mother, Dorothy McKee of Macomb; brother and sister-in-law, Greg and Ronda McKee of Macomb; and brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Sandy McKee of Fairbanks, Alaska. Also surviving are her nephews and niece, Eric (Kim) McKee of Macomb, Ill., Gretchen (Nick) Lawyer of Marion, Iowa, and Johnnie (Kamie) McKee of Macomb, Ill.; and great-nephews and -nieces, Dalton, Robert, Cody, Maria, April, Ava, Maris, Ella and Joe. Margaret had the very strong and loving support of many special friends and family.

She was a graduate of Western Illinois University. After college, she worked at McDonough District Hospital for a short time, where she met Jack, her soul mate and husband for 35 years. She taught for over 30 years before her retirement in 2010. Margaret began her teaching career at Beards<0x00AD>town Elementary School in 1978 and then taught first grade at Industry Elementary School for many years. She inspired and touched many children's lives during her teaching career.

In addition to teaching young children, Margaret was a mentor and role model to many pre-service and student teachers. She received awards for her contribution to teacher education from the curriculum and instruction department at Western Illinois University. She continued sharing her educational skills in 2011, when she taught Ag in the Classroom with the McDonough County Farm Bureau.

Margaret loved music. She was a member of the Macomb Choral Society for several years and played French horn with the Macomb Municipal Band. Margaret also sang in the First Baptist Church choir, where she was a member. Margaret was an avid swimmer and loved the beach and ocean, especially going to Florida and Gulf Shores, Ala., with her family and special friends. One of the things she loved the most was nature walks with her special "grandchildren." She touched everyone she met.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Visitation will be today, Aug. 15, 2014, at the Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014, at the home of Greg and Ronda McKee. The residence is located just south of the Macomb Municipal Airport at 13005 N. 1600th Road, Macomb, Ill.

Memorials may be made in her name to the McDonough County Humane Society or the First Baptist Church of Macomb.
