PEORIA - Miles Black, 68, of Peoria, Ill., passed away at 9:35 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014, at Heddington Oaks Nursing Home in West Peoria, Ill.
Miles was born on July 3, 1946, in Marianna, Ark., to Osborne and Ruthdell (Jackson) Black Sr. He married Pearlie Shorty on Sept. 26, 1976. She preceded him in death on April 19, 2004.
The Rev. Miles Black became an ordained minister in 1977.
Miles is survived by his mother, Ruthdell Brown of Marianna, Ark.; one daughter, Sarah Foster of West Peoria; one son, Lamont Thornhill of St. Louis, Mo.; one granddaughter, whom he raised, Tammy Brooks of Peoria; seven sisters, Deloris Simmons and Lela Jackson, both of Peoria, and Beulah (Henry) Davis, Delores Williams, Argie (Warren) Harold, Brenda Liddell and Karen (Michael) Goldman, all of St. Louis, Mo.; four brothers, Frank (Sylvia) Vinson, Willie Vinson, Pervis Vinson and Osborne (Kim) Black Jr., all of St. Louis, Mo.; two special great-grandchildren, Ne'Shawn Brooks and Cornae Coburn, both of Peoria; and a special mother-in-law, Signora Shorty of Peoria.
He was also preceded in death by his father, one sister and one brother.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014, at Sovereign Grace Baptist Church, 1505 Martin St., with a visitation one hour prior, beginning at 9 a.m. Pastor Alvin Riley Sr. will officiate. The Rev. Miles Black will be laid to rest in Lutheran Cemetery. Family and friends will be received at 2314 W. Malone St.
