PEORIA - Marjorie E. Elwood, 86, of Peoria passed away at 10:04 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11, 2014, at Independence Village.
Marjorie was born in Marshalltown, Iowa, on May 31, 1928, to Pete and Ethel Thomas Nichols. She married John "Jack" R. Elwood on Feb. 1, 1948, in Marshalltown, Iowa. He died Sept. 13, 1984, in Peoria. She later married Luther Brindle on Aug. 13, 1998, in Marshalltown, Iowa. He died Sept. 23, 2011, in Marshalltown, Iowa.
She was also preceded in death by one brother.
Surviving are two daughters, Diana (Donald) Dailey of Chillicothe and Janice (Chip) Roberts of Trivoli; one son, Patrick (Chris) Elwood of Holiday Island, Ark.; six grandchildren, Sherri (David) Estes, Cari (Jess) Clark, Jimi (Brandy) Roberts, Jeremy Roberts, Eric (Allison) Herring and Leigh Herring; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Marjorie worked for the Peoria Journal Star for 10 years as the classified ads supervisor.
She volunteered for the American Red Cross and was a member of the Red Hat Society.
She was an avid Bridge and Pinochle player.
Marjorie was involved with many activities at The Ember's in Marshalltown and at Independence Village.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today, Aug. 16, 2014, at Parkview Cemetery, with the Rev. Dr. Randy Williams officiating. Cremation rites were accorded.
