ELMWOOD - David Melvin Phillips, 66, of Davenport, Iowa, formerly of Peoria and Elmwood, passed away of natural causes at 12:10 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 30, 2014, at Manor Care in Davenport.

David was born to Robert and Alta (Davis) Phillips on June 15, 1948, in Imperial, Calif. He married Linda Lee Post on Feb. 12, 1977. She passed away on May 23, 1998.

He is survived by one daughter, Jennifer Otto; three brothers, Robert E. Phillips of Florida, Donald (Hermi) Phillips of Virginia and Timothy Phillips of Colorado; two sisters, Geraldine Sampson of Iowa and Marsha Phillips of Texas; and two grandchildren, Christine Otto and Michael Callear.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandchild, Sarah Callear.

David graduated from Elmwood High School in 1966 and continued his education at Western Illinois University for four years, before he was drafted into the United States Army, serving from 1970-1972.

In his younger years he worked for the family business, Phillips Drywall Service.

Over the years he enjoyed playing pingpong, at which he won many tournaments. He loved to play and watch baseball and basketball.

David's faith in the Lord as a Christian was unshakable. He enjoyed singing and praising the Lord.

In his later years he loved to play euchre, bingo, and watch "Walker, Texas Ranger." One of his favorite pastimes was spending time with his family. He had many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and -nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 4, 2014, at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Elmwood with the Rev. Dennis Fitzgerald officiating. There will be no visitation. Burial, with military honors, will be in Elmwood Township Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Elmwood Baptist Church.
