METAMORA — Rose Louise Wilkinson, age 91, passed away at 4:15 AM, Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at Snyder Village in Metamora, IL.
Born June 6, 1926 in Peoria, a daughter of Wilhelmina "Minnie" (Altpeter) and Arnold Schoenheider. Rose married her high school sweetheart, Robert Wilkinson, September 12, 1948 in Peoria. He passed January 19, 1999 in Tucson, AZ after 50 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Donna Schwindenhammer and one sister; Dorothy Knussman.
Rose is survived by two sons; Steven (Janis) Wilkinson of Eugene, OR., and Mark (Jane) Wilkinson of Peoria, eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
Rose was a graduate of Peoria Manual High School and obtained a Bachelor of Music Education at Illinois Wesleyan University. She was voted the most outstanding music person in her class in 1948 and directed the Illinois Wesleyan University Collegiate Choir. Rose had played the organ since she was 14 and passed her love of music on to the next generation, as all Rose and Bob's children were musicians. She loved to teach others the piano and taught lessons in her home. Rose was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt who will be missed by all.
In Peoria, she was a member, organist, and choir director for her church, Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church for 35 years. Rose and Bob moved to Green Valley, AZ in 1983 where she played the organ for the Desert Hills Lutheran Church.
Visitation will be held 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM, Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at Bethel Lutheran Church at 200 Colona Ave. Bartonville, IL. Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 AM at the church. Pastor Steven Tibbetts, STS, will officiate. Burial will follow in Parkview Cemetery in Peoria.
Memorials in Rose's name may be made to Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church or to Snyder Village.
