Lewistown - Robert D. Malott, age 82, of 610 W. Avenue F., Lewistown, Ill., passed away at 12:30 p.m. Monday, May 18, 2009, at his home.
He was born on May 9, 1927, in Astoria, Ill., a son of Ralph and Florine (Shields) Malott. Robert married Maralee Vaughn in 1956. She preceded him in death on Feb. 18, 1980.
He also was preceded in death by three brothers, Willis, Ralph and Leroy.
Surviving are two brothers, Bernard (and Stella) Malott of Elmwood, Ill., and Gaylon (and Brianna) Malott of Marquette Heights, Ill.; two sisters, Nelda (and Jim) Fell of Vermont, Ill., and Melba (and Joe) Harris of Channahon, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews.
Robert was a machine operator for International Harvester in Canton for over 30 years, retiring in 1977.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the MED DET, 556th QM BN, with the rank of Tec 5.
Robert was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and the VFW No. 5001 of Lewistown, Ill.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 22, 2009, at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria, Ill. The Rev. Clifton Hart will officiate. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Interment, with military honors, will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Oak Hill Cemetery, Lewistown, Ill.
Memorials can be made to the donor's choice.
