BRADFORD - William Francis Johnston, 68, of Houston, Texas, formerly of Bradford, died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009, after a long illness.
Bill was born March 2, 1941, in Bradford, Ill., to Clara Frances (Miller) Johnston and Joseph William Johnston. Both preceded him in death.
Bill graduated from Bradford High School and attended Western Illinois University before serving in the United States Army. After completing his military service, Bill enjoyed a successful business career with Debt Collections Incorporated and Integretec before retiring as a director and manager of collections.
While a native of Illinois, Bill was a resident of Houston and a proud Texan for more than 36 years.
Bill is survived by his wife and companion, Patricia Johnston; his daughters, Cindi Shaddix (James) of McDonough, Ga., and Kelly Johnston of Bend, Ore.; and his son, Scott Johnston of Bend, Ore. He also is survived by three brothers and three sisters, Rick Johnston (Bobbie) of Rossville, Tenn., Mary Ellen Eble (Jim) of Bradford, Ill., Patrick Johnston (Sandy) of Wilmington, Del., Beth Virden (Gary) of Speer, Ill., Dave Johnston (Lynn) of Mapleton, Ill., and Peggy (Steve) Melton of Peoria, Ill.; and many nephews and nieces.
A memorial service was conducted on Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010, at the Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home in Houston, Texas. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of the Grant-Johnson Funeral Home, 217 E. Main St., Bradford, IL 61421. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Bradford.
