Joshua Stien Obituary

PEKIN - Joshua J. Stien, 26, of Pekin passed away Saturday, July 23, 2011, at his residence.

He was born Oct. 8, 1984, to Denny and Linda Bradshaw Stien in Peoria.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Jack Bradshaw, and grandmother, Barbara Stien.

He is survived by his parents, Denny and Linda Stien of Pekin; a brother, Nathan (Liz) Stien of Normal; grandmother, Dorothy Bradshaw; and grandfather, Harry Stien. He is also survived by several uncles, aunts and cousins.

Joshua played baseball and took karate at the Boys and Girls Club. He then played Little League baseball until high school.

He decided to stay with band, which he started in fifth grade. He was in every band they offered in high school and was section leader in most. He played the trumpet, then the tuba until college.

He was very active in JROTC all four years, working up to commanding officer his senior year. He was captain of the rifle team and on the debate team.

He did more community service in high school and college than most people do in a lifetime.

At The Ohio State University, he was in Army ROTC and on the rifle team, with which he won awards. He was a member of the Pershing Rifle Fraternity. He was also a member of the Freemasons and the Shriners.

He was attending Illinois Central College.

He loved his family and friends very much, including Bert and Macy, our dogs.

Cremation has been accorded, and a celebration of life will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 30, 2011, at the Creve Coeur Christian Church, 101 S. Thorncrest Ave. in Creve Coeur. Joshua's cousin, the Rev. Anthony Cobb, will be speaking.

The Cremation Society of Mid-Illinois Co. Pekin/Peoria is assisting the family with arrangements.
