Lillian King Obituary

ONEIDA - Lillian B. King, age 96, of rural Oneida, Ill., passed away at 9:48 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 24, 2011, at Seminary Manor in Galesburg, Ill.

She was the last survived of nine siblings and was born Aug. 12, 1915, in rural Galesburg to Carl B. Nelson and Jennie (Johnson) Nelson. Lillian was a graduate of Galesburg High School. She was married to Keith King on Feb. 21, 1934. Keith preceded her in death on Dec. 13, 2004, after nearly 71 years of marriage.

Surviving are three sons, Jerry King (Inis) of near Victoria, Jim King of Geneseo and Dr. Michael Nelson (Peggy) of St. Louis, Mo., and twin daughters, Janet (Jim Nelson) of DeWitt, Iowa, and Janice Larson (and the late Dean Larson) of Altona. Also surviving Mrs. King are 12 grandchildren, Julie King (Dave Shragal), Brent King (Kim), Brian King (Becky), Bradley Nelson (Dana Bookey), Eric Nelson (Margaret), Jamie Edstrom (Eric), Steve Larson (Diana), Sallie Rivera (Bill), Scott Larson (Katrina), Shane Nelson (Julie), Nathan Nelson (Gina) and Jennie Guest (Matt). She is also survived by 24 great-grandchildren.

The Kings farmed near Oneida, where they built one of the finest herds of Milking Shorthorn dairy cattle in the nation. Although always a very active partner on the farm, Lillian still found time to be a part of her community with involvement in R.O.V.A. PTA, Oneida Women's Club, United Church of Oneida, Farm Bureau Women's Committee, Prime Timers, Melody Moms and the Blue Bird Club.

Her compassion, caring and nurturing hand touched many. She especially loved animals, from the cows and calves she cared for to the birds who visited her feeders and the cats and kittens who shared her barn, her home and her heart.

Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes in Oneida is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011, at the United Church of Oneida. Funeral services will be at the church on Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011, at 11 a.m., with burial to follow in the Oneida Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Courtyard Estates in Galva, Seminary Manor Staff in Galesburg and Hospice Compassus for their tender and loved care of our dear Mom during her final days.

Memorials may be made to the United Church of Oneida, American Milking Shorthorn Society Australian Youth Exchange Program or The Milking Shorthorn Endowment Fund.

Online condolences or sympathy card may be sent through www.hurdhendricksfuneralhome.com.
