STREATOR - Joseph A. "Joe" Dondelinger, 66, of rural Streator died Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at Brandon Regional Hospital in Brandon, Fla.
A celebration of life service will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Festivities Unlimited, Route 6 and Poplar Street in Ottawa, with American Legion Post No. 33 providing an Honor Guard Ceremony service at noon, followed by a prayer and open eulogies. Hagi Funeral Home in Streator is assisting the family with arrangements.
Mr. Dondelinger was born July 12, 1945, in Peru, the son of Frank and Antoinette (Byczynski) Dondelinger. He married Sharon Rea on June 17, 1998, in Ottawa. She survives.
Joe had served in the Armed Forces for more than 21 years and retired from the Air National Guard in Peoria. He had also been employed by the Illinois Department of Transportation for 42 years, retiring in September 2011.
He was a graduate of LaSalle-Peru Township High School, class of 1963.
Joe was a member of Ottawa American Legion Post No. 33.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon of rural Streator; one daughter, Cindy (Rod) Dilker of Kansas; two sons, Shaun P. Dondelinger of Streator and Troy M. (Dana) Dondelinger of Nebraska; four grandchildren, Samantha (Chris) Volesky of North Carolina, Kirsty (Kenneth) McCoy of Streator, Tyler and Trevor Harnett of Kansas; and one sister, Mary (Dick) Denis of Peru.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, William and Robert Dondelinger.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made directly to the Wounded Warrior Project in his name or given directly to the family.
