Lyle Ambrosius Obituary

TREMONT - Lyle Duane Ambrosius, age 88, of 303 E. State St., Tremont, Ill., formerly of Macomb, passed away at 2 a.m. Wednesday, May 2, 2012, at Morton Villa Care Center in Morton, Ill.

He was born on Jan. 12, 1924, in Adair, Ill., to Marvin S. and Dorothy Grace Hayes Ambrosius.

He is survived by one daughter, Cynthia Sue (Gary) Ellis of Tremont; Martha Ambrosius, mother of his daughter; two sisters, Lois Roe of Rocky Ford, Colo., and Georgia (Al) Juedes of Portland, Ore.; one brother, Robert Ambrosius of Knoxville; two grandchildren, Gary Jr. (Kamie) Ellis and Lori (Michael) Strnad; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son and one daughter in infancy.

Duane was an Army veteran, serving in the South Pacific in World War II.

He belonged to the Macomb American Legion.

He was a mechanic for Mac Ford Lincoln Mercury in Macomb, retiring in 1985.

He participated in stock car racing in the 1950s and was a NASCAR fan.

The family would like to thank all the nurses and CNAs at Morton Villa and VITAS Hospice for their loving care and support.

Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday, May 7, 2012, at the Oakwood Cemetery in Macomb, with the Rev. Robert Greene officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb. Full military rites will be conducted by the Macomb American Legion and Macomb VFW at the graveside service.
