PEORIA - Mr. Charles "Chuck" Lewis Woods Jr. of Rocky Mount, N.C., formerly of Peoria, Ill., passed away on Saturday, April 14, 2012, in Peoria, Ill.
Chuck was born on July 29, 1947, in Greensboro, N.C., to the late Charles Lewis Woods Sr. and Nonie Cheek Woods. The family moved to Rocky Mount, N.C., and Chuck attended Rocky Mount City Schools. He graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1965 and later enrolled at North Carolina A & T State University in Greensboro, N.C.
Chuck enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served as an air traffic controller. After Chuck was honorably discharged, he returned to North Carolina A & T State University, received a bachelor of science degree in accounting in 1975 and accepted an accountant job at Caterpillar Tractor Company in Morton, Ill.
While in Peoria, Chuck became a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., the Henry Brown Lodge No. 22, Menilk Consistory No. 49, Kmar Temple No. 56 and the Peter H. Clark Elks Lodge. He made life-long friends in these organizations.
Chuck returned to North Carolina in 1986 and worked as an accountant for companies in Eden. He returned to Rocky Mount and worked as a teacher's assistant for the public schools, an accountant and a computer technician. After he retired, he opened Woods Accounting and Tax Service, where he worked until his death.
Chuck leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 42 years, Vannette Pittman Woods of Rocky Mount, N.C.; a daughter, Tracie (Victor) Albea of Newport News, Va.; a son, Charles E-A (Donna) Woods of Rocky Mount, N.C.; two granddaughters, TyDasha Woods of Rocky Mount, N.C., and Ciara Woods of Charlotte, N.C.; two grandsons, Victor and Harrison Albea of Newport News, Va.; four brothers, Kennon (Tanya) Woods of Raleigh, N.C., Michael (Marion) Woods of Moorestown, N.J., Tommy Bennett of Washington, D.C., and Frederick Woods (Cynthia) of Mount Laurel, N.J.; two aunts, several nieces, nephews, cousins and a multitude of friends.
Visitation and funeral services were held Friday, April 20, 2012, at St. James Baptist Church in Rocky Mount, N.C. Burial followed in Garden of Gethsemane. Stokes Mortuary Inc. in Rocky Mount, N.C., was entrusted with the funeral arrangements and Simons Mortuary was in charge of the local arrangements.
