PEORIA - Doris Marita Karrick Newtson, 65, of Peoria, beloved wife of Robert Lee Newtson, died at 11:45 a.m. Sunday, June 17, 2012, at her residence, surrounded by her family.

Doris was born the 12th of 14 children to William T. and Martha L. Heacock Karrick on Dec. 12, 1946, in Dahinda, Ill. She married Robert L. Newtson on Sept. 20, 1987, in Peoria. He survives.

She was blessed to be the mother of five wonderful children, Chris (Mindy) Vannaken of Morton, Major Anthony Newtson of Oahu, Hawaii, Christopher (Candy Miller) Newtson of Peoria, Sarah Newtson Keim of Eureka and Rachel (Richard) Reeb of Germantown Hills; and further blessed to be the grandmother of five grandchildren, Dillon, Ella, Zachary, McKenzy and Kayleigh. Also surviving are her brothers and sisters, Bill (Cora) Karrick of Williamsfield, Jeannie Dawson of Urbana, Ohio, Jerry Karrick of Williamsfield, Betty Lehne of Savoy, Ill., Dorothy (David) Armstrong of Janesville, Wis., Eleanor (Jim) Nelson of Ellisville, Raymond (Edna) Karrick of Williamsfield, Kay Bigsby of Asheville, N.C., Danny (Gayla) Karrick of Willamsfield, Nancy (John) Umbeck of West Lafayette, Ind., Steve (Chimplee) Karrick of Crestview, Fla., and Pat (Cathy) Karrick of Rochelle, Ill.; many nieces and nephews; as well as her extended Newtson family, her sisters-in-law, Glenna (Jim) Rathbun of Bartonville and Gail Newtson of Gulf Shores, Ala.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Vicki Pusateri in 2009; and her brothers-in-law Jean Dawson, Richard Lehne, Charlie Bigsby, Ronnie Newtson and Ricky Newtson.

Doris spent the majority of her working life spanning 40-plus years in the secretarial field, working mainly at Caterpillar, USA Financial Services Inc., AFFINA, National City Bank and Methodist Hospital.

She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, and loved her cat, Fuzzface, whom she joins in heaven. She was also a gourmet world-class chef, and we will all miss that about her.

Her heart belonged with her beloved Bob and family and her faith in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She would like friends and family to know that while she was still a "work in progress" in her Christian faith on this earth, she is now complete.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 23, 2012, at The Wilton Mortuary in Peoria. The Rev. Shawn Lindsay will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 22, at the mortuary. Burial will be in Springdale Cemetery in Peoria.

Online condolences may be left for the family at www.thewiltonmortary.com.

Memorials may be made to the Methodist Foundation, 120 NE Glen Oak Ave., Peoria, IL 61603.
