PEKIN - Tom Margetich, 86, of Pekin passed away at 2:43 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria.

Born June 22, 1926, in Mystic, Iowa, to Tom and Dragica "Caroline" (Licae) Margetich, he married Christina E. Heaton on July 10, 1946, in Phoenix, Ariz. She died Dec. 7, 2003, in Pekin.

He also was preceded in death by two sons, Norman Dennis "Denny" Margetich and Thomas D. Margetich; and one daughter, Caroline Margetich; three brothers; and two sisters.

Surviving are two daughters, Noreen Margetich of Springfield and Louise (Bill Martin) Lykins of North Pekin; two daughters-in-law, Debbie Margetich and Linda Margetich; eight grandchildren, Scott (Ashley Sheehan) Lykins, Robin (Denny Denham) Garrison, Joe (Dawn) Margetich, Dawn (Sean) Danner, Troy (Jill) Margetich, Heather (Joe Bennett) Margetich, Christina Lykins and Tommy (Jill Crawford) Margetich; 11 great-grandchildren, Tyler Lykins, Amber Garrison, Jake Rowe, Nick Rowe, Brandon Margetich, Mikal Margetich, Bryce Danner, Annissa Danner, Angie Margetich, Jaelyn Toms and Tobias Crawford; and four great-great-grandchildren, Kylie Moore, Joseph Moore, Iris Margetich and Lilly Margetich. He also was looking forward to the birth of his 12th great-grandchild in May 2013.

Tom had served in the United States Navy during World War II.

A member of the Teamster's and Chauffers Union Local 627, he had worked as a truck driver for nine years. He previously had worked at Caterpillar Inc.

Tom was a member of the Roy L. King Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1232 in Pekin, the Disabled Veterans of America and an associate member of the Vietnam Veterans of Illinois.

Tom and his wife, Christina, were very active in veterans' issues. They traveled the country advocating for POW/MIA issues.

His visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. There will be no service. Cremation rites were accorded.
