Roy Clark Obituary

KEWANEE - Roy J. Clark, 70, of Kewanee passed away at 3 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his family.

Roy was born March 4, 1942, in Macomb, Ill., the son of Roy C. and Edna (Roberts) Clark. He married Jolene Zimmerman on June 12, 1964, in rural Colchester, Ill.

She survives, as well as his mother of Macomb, Ill.; two daughters, Jacqueline (Randy) Cernovich of Kewanee, Ill., and Jessica (Jeffrey) Zogby of Peoria, Ill.; and seven grandchildren, Miranda (Brian) Bridgeford of Destin, Fla., Ethan Vanderostyne of Neponset, Ill., Tyler Vanderostyne of DeKalb, Ill., Lucy Cernovich of Kewanee, Ill., and Annabelle, Owen and Eli Zogby of Peoria, Ill. He is also survived by his brother, Gary (Letha) Clark of Industry, Ill.; and two sisters, Beverly (Kermit) Short of Sciota, Ill., and Linda (Larry) Ragel of Springfield, Ill.; as well as five nieces and three nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, grandparents and two nieces in infancy.

Roy graduated from Macomb High School in 1960 and went on to study engineering at Western Illinois University and the University of Illinois.

He was employed by Hyster Company in Kewanee, Ill., for seven years and Kress Corporation in Brimfield, Ill., for over 30 years, retiring in 2008.

He served as a deacon and an elder for the First Christian Church of Kewanee and enjoyed singing in the choir, praise team and serving on various committees. Roy was an avid music lover and volunteered much of his time establishing and maintaining the sound systems for his congregation. He participated in several church productions over the years.

His love of music was second only to his love of cars, especially Corvairs, owning at least one since 1967. Roy enjoyed working on home improvement projects with his wife, Jo, completing several renovations over the course of their 48-year marriage. He cherished time with his family and was a treasured friend to many.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, at Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, 219 E. Second St., Kewanee, Ill. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at the First Christian Church of Kewanee, 105 Dwight St., Kewanee, Ill., with the Rev. Joe Schmidt officiating. A private burial will be held Friday afternoon in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Macomb, Ill.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Roy's memory to the First Christian Church of Kewanee Building Fund.

Private online condolences may be left for the family at www.schuenemantumblesonfuneralhome.com.
