PEORIA - Sarah Alice Henning, 97, of Peoria passed away peacefully at 1:35 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center.
Sarah was born in Ripley, Tenn., on Aug. 2, 1915, to loving parents, Will and Serrena (Maynard) Lovelace. She married Robert William Henning Sr. on April 22, 1933, in Ripley, Tenn., and to that union three children were born. Robert Sr. preceded her in death.
Sarah worked for many years at the Caterpillar Factory.
Sarah was a faithful member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where she was active in many church ministries over the years. She served as a member of the women's mission, usher board and president of the women's auxiliary. Sarah was a great orator and was asked to speak at churches within the community.
Sarah leaves to cherish her memories her three children, Alberta Harris of Cleveland, Ohio, Robert Henning Jr. and JoElla Harris, both of Peoria; two nephews whom she raised, James Burns of Gallatin, Tenn., and David Burns of Peoria; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, 16 siblings and two great-grandsons.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, at Mt. Zion M.B. Church, with a visitation beginning at 11 a.m. Pastor Alphonso Lyons Jr. will officiate. Sarah will be laid to rest in Parkview Cemetery. Simons Mortuary has been entrusted with arrangements.
