PEKIN - Leroy B. "Bud" Crist, 88, of Pekin passed away at 4:22 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, at his home.
Born Jan. 29, 1925, in Indianapolis, Ind., to Roy L. and Harriett (Beerup) Crist, he married Rose Ann "Peg" Springer on Aug. 6, 1946, in Pawnee. She survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Rita (Fred) Figg of Laurel, Fla.; two sons, Michael (Ruth) Crist of East Peoria and Brett (Deborah) Crist of Pekin; and several grandchildren.
His parents preceded him in death.
A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he served from Oct. 26, 1943, to Jan. 8, 1946. Bud owned and operated Cristal Electric in Pekin and later in East Peoria for 30 years, retiring in 1980 when his sons took over the business. He later served as the electrical inspector for the city of Pekin for 16 years, retiring in 1996.
He was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church, Pekin Elk's Lodge 1271 and the Knights of Columbus Archbishop Schlarman Council 3507, all in Pekin. Bud enjoyed square dancing, traveling, picnicking and tending to his garden, flowers and fruit trees.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Father Michael Andrejek will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with recitation of the rosary at 3:30 p.m. Burial will be in Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Pekin, where military rites will be accorded.
