CREVE COEUR - Everett Hal Beggs, 90 years old, formerly of Creve Coeur, passed away and went to meet the Lord on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease.

He was well cared for at Canyon Valley Memory Care Residence in Green Valley, Ariz., for the past 11 months.

Everett was born in Cairo, Ill., in 1922 to Everett and Myrtle Beggs. He and his older sisters, Gladys and Evelyn, attended schools in Marion, Ill., and he earned his GED in California after serving in World War II. In November 1948, Everett married the love of his life, Irma Jean Dotray in Peoria, Ill., and they had three children.

He worked for Illinois Bell Telephone Co. for 35 years, retiring in 1983.

He liked working outdoors, as well as outdoor activities such as hunting and fishing. He enjoyed taking his family on summer vacation trips to explore various parts of the country. After retirement, he spent his leisure time playing golf and reading Western novels. He and Jean enjoyed many winters in Yuma, Ariz., at Villa Alameda RV Resort.

Everett belonged to Masonic Lodge 1170, American Legion Post 1234, the AT&T Pioneers and the Lions Club. He was a Boy Scout leader and a member of the Creve Coeur Christian Church in Creve Coeur, Ill.

He was a hardworking man who loved his family more than anything.

He is survived by his wife, Irma Jean of Green Valley, Ariz.; a son, Thomas (Jamee) Beggs of Crystal Lake, Ill.; and two daughters, Carol (Charles) Shinkle of Green Valley, Ariz., and Terri (Larry) Griggs of Dublin, Ohio. His family also includes grandchildren, Timothy Shinkle of California, Amanda Donohue of New Jersey, Devin Beggs of Minnesota, Jason Griggs of Utah, Erin Treder of Wisconsin and Laura Griggs and Sarah Griggs of Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Gladys Brassfield and Evelyn Kromter, both of California.

Funeral and interment were at the Green Valley Mortuary and Cemetery in Green Valley, Ariz., on Friday, Feb. 22, at 1 p.m.
