PEORIA - Army Specialist Mark D. Blakey Jr., stationed at Fort Riley, Kan., the son of a Peoria man, died on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at the age of 22.
He was the beloved son of Cynthia Blakey of O'Fallon, Mo., and Mark Blakey of Peoria, Ill.; cherished grandson of Kelly and Ann LaCombe of O'Fallon and Richard and Rosalie Blakey of Fort Meyers, Fla.; dear godson of Ruby Lew and Steward Sevald; and loving nephew, cousin and friend to many.
He is survived by his wife, Sherteasiwa, and her son.
Mark graduated from Fort Zumwalt North High School in 2009 and excelled at wrestling and football and joined the Army soon after. Mark was very proud to be a soldier in the U.S. Army and had returned from a tour in Iraq, where his fellow soldiers and superiors state that he was an exceptional soldier, always willing to go the extra mile for his comrades.
Mark always wore his famous smile and throughout his short life was always a great friend, son and patriot.
The family is being served by the Baue Funeral & Memorial Center, 3950 W. Clay St., St. Charles, Mo. Visitation will be held Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. Friday, March 1, 2013, at the Baue Funeral & Memorial Center Chapel. Interment will follow in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
