Robert Cook Obituary

LACON - Robert E. Cook, 68, of Lacon, Ill., passed away at 7:50 a.m. on Thursday, March 21, 2013, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Ill.

He was born on May 3, 1944, in Pittsfield, Ill., the son of the late Charles and Ellen Geraldine Starman Cook. He married Lisa Pottinger on Dec. 21, 1968, in Washburn, Ill. She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Jaimie Johnson of Rockford, Ill.; his siblings, Dick (Teri) Cook of East Peoria, Ill., Jane (Jerry) Oliver of Pearcy, Ark., Tim (Dee Dee) Cook of Germantown Hills, Ill., and Chuck (Lynn) Cook of Washington, Ill.; nieces and nephews, Ellen, Lindsey, Brandon, Brett, Jordan and Stephanie Cook, Jedd (Tanya) and Jared Engel, Lexi (Eric) Cwikla, Sean Flanagan, Steve Weers, Robin (Darren) Brown, Aaron and Brooklynn Boyd, Candace (Matt) Bruce, Chris (Erin) Schupp, Zac Wahl and Aimee McDonald; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brothers-in-law, Barry Flanagan and Tom Pottinger.

Robert worked for 38 years at Caterpillar Inc. and was a part-time night manager at Jim's IGA and Sav-Mor Liquors. He had also served as a part-time police officer in Lacon and chief of police in Washburn in the 1960s.

He was a Naval reservist who received an honorable discharge and was a member of the Lacon American Legion Post 593. He was also active with the UAW Local 974.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 25, 2013, at the Lenz Memorial Home in Lacon, Ill. Robert Murphy will officiate. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Lacon with military honors.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lacon/Sparland Rescue 52 Ambulance or the Altar and Rosary Society.
