PEORIA - Jens Arnold Christensen, age 83, of Peoria passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at 5:45 p.m. at Proctor Hospital in Peoria.
He was born Jan. 3, 1930, in Harlan, Iowa, to Mathias and Helen (Rasmussen) Christensen. He married Elizabeth Ann Adolphson on Jan. 24, 1953, in Yuma, Ariz. She passed away June 6, 2007, in Decatur, Ill.
He was also preceded in death by two sons, James and Thomas Christensen.
Survivors include one daughter, Helen Roberts of Peoria; two daughters-in-law, Marla Christensen of Springfield, Ill., and Cherie Christensen-Grass of St. Louis, Mo.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Evelyn Dankert of Waukesha, Wis.; two brothers, Phillip (Marilyn) Christensen of Sparks, Nev., and Thomas (Sharyn) Christensen of Meridian, Idaho; and numerous nieces and nephews.
J. Arnold owned and operated Christensen Sales in Decatur until his retirement.
He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War and a lifetime member of the VFW Post 99 in Decatur.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be Saturday, May 25, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at Bradley Epworth Church in Peoria. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services. Schmidt-Haller Burial and Cremation Services in Peoria is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be in Mount Gilead Cemetery in Decatur.
