PEORIA - Dale A. McCallum, 68, of Sarasota, Fla., formerly of Peoria, passed away peacefully at his home Wednesday, May 22, 2013.

Dale was born Oct. 22, 1944, in Peoria, Ill., the son of the late Joe and Avis (Ray) McCallum. Dale attended Franklin grammar school in Peoria, graduated from Peoria High School in 1962 and attended the Missouri Military Academy from 1958 through 1961.

Dale later moved to Sarasota in 1968 and began his career in sales at Siesta Key Marine, where he quickly became their top salesman. While at Siesta Key Marine, Dale put himself through real estate school to begin his lifelong career in commercial real estate.

Dale excelled as a leading broker in Sarasota. His honest and fair reputation led to him being known as the "Land Man" when he was the owner of Best & Associates of Sarasota.

Dale met his wife, Anne, in the 1980s, finding a mutual chemistry and personal connection, and they were married in 1982, beginning their life together.

Dale was drawn to life on the water; he and Anne resided on Siesta Key and downtown Sarasota, always near a boat dock.

Dale lived an avid and active lifestyle where he and Anne traveled on countless boat trips throughout Florida and the Bahamas, cruises to the tropics, Alaska, Europe and even cross-country road trips in their RV. Throughout their travels abroad, Dale always seemed to meet or find someone he knew.

Dale's passions were Anne, blues, jazz, dining, travel and social living, where he enjoyed and shared culture with all around him.

Dale's kind heart, gentle strength and generous nature will be remembered by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Anne McCallum; his son Scott, Dale's pride and joy, with April, Ethan and Ryan; and his family, Donald, Jeanette, Ron, Frank and Margot, with Olivia and Luke Stitham; and his sister Joy and brother-in-law Ben, with Debbie and Gene.

A memorial celebration of his life will be held at Toale Brothers Funeral Home in Sarasota, Fla., on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at 1 p.m.

The family requests in lieu of flowers for donations to be made to the All Faiths Food Bank, 817 Blaikie Court, Sarasota, FL 34240, (941)-379-6333.
