WASHINGTON - Betty J. Summer, 78, of Washington passed away at 2:05 p.m. Friday, May 24, 2013, at Proctor Hospital in Peoria, after a short illness.
Betty was born on Feb. 10, 1935, in Washington to Loren and Rachel (Bond) Guth. She married John Summer in Washington on Sept. 19, 1953. John died on Aug. 8, 1997.
Among those surviving are one daughter, Debra (Kevin) Wade of Washington; one son, Terry Summer of Washington; one sister, Beverly (Roger) Wear of Morton: two grandchildren, Bradley (Betty Dalton) Wade and Carrie (Jimmie) Fisher; and two special, loving great-grandchildren, Jaydon and Clayton.
Betty had worked for Foster & Gallagher and Kmart prior to her retirement.
She was an active member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Washington, where she sang in the church choir for many years. Betty also had been a longtime member of Hopewell Grange in Washington as well as being active in the National Grange, Illinois State Grange and the Tri-County Pomona Grange. She had served as an executive committee member in the Illinois State Grange as well as being a former Ceres. In Hopewell Grange, Betty had served many years as secretary and held other offices as well.
She also loved to bowl in the Ladies Bowling League at Landmark Lanes in Peoria.
She was a charter member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Pekin and had been a member also of the Clover Leaf Chapter of Order of Eastern Star, the Daughters of the Nile and AARP.
Funeral services for Betty will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington, with Pastor Dick Hanson officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery, north of Washington. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 on Monday at the funeral home and a half-hour prior to services on Tuesday.
