PEORIA - D. Christopher "Chris" Gaspar, 41, of Peoria passed away at 9:06 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2013, in Peoria.
He was born Jan. 27, 1972, in Canton to Donald Joseph and Earla D. (Scott) Gaspar.
Surviving are his mother and stepfather, Earla and David Swayne of Pekin; one sister, Stephanie (Jeff) Carrier of Peoria; one nephew, Adam Carrier; one niece, McKinleigh Carrier; and his grandparents, Donna Myers of Pekin and Jim and Nancy Swayne, also of Pekin.
He also leaves his longtime companion, Amy Nelson, with whom he shared a home, and her son, Brandon Nelson, whom Chris was very close with.
His father preceded him in death.
He was born and raised in Canton and graduated in 1990 from Dunlap High School.
He worked as a contract painter for most of his working life, last working on May 27.
Chris was a very giving and caring person. He enjoyed staying fit and lifting weights. He was especially fond of animals and enjoyed nature.
His memorial service will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Visitation will be held from 4:30 to 5:45 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Private burial of his cremated remains will be in Prairie Haven Cemetery in Pekin at a later date.
