PEORIA - Virgle W. Gillum Jr. "VW" of Peoria passed away Sunday morning, Aug. 4, 2013, at UnityPoint Health-Methodist.
Virgle was born in Madisonville, Ky., on April 19, 1939, to Virgle W. Gillum and Marjorie (Pritchett) Gillum, who are deceased.
Virgle is survived by sons, Don (Melinda) Stewart of Waco, Texas, and Virgle Gillum and John Gillum, both of Peoria, Ill.; two daughters, Patricia Tandy and Selina Tandym, also of Peoria, Ill.; and brothers, Harvey Baker of Madisonville, Ky., Frank (Janice) Baker of San Bernardino, Calif., William (Brenda) Baker of Indianapolis, Ind., Ronald (Carolyn) Reed of Beech Mont, Ky., and Donald Reed, Arthur Lee (Margo) Reed and Larry Baker of Madisonville, Ky.
One sister, Pearline Tandy, preceded him in death.
He leaves to mourn him 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Virgle came to Peoria in 1961, working first at Bower Buick and then Caterpillar as a security guard, retiring in 1999.
Virgle was a Christian who had faith in God but no church affiliation.
He loved cars and everything about them.
Virgle will be missed by so many - too numerous to mention. He never met a stranger and always had a joke for everyone he met.
Services will be held Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013, at T.W. Parks Colonial Chapel, 201 N. MacArthur Highway, at 3 p.m., with visitation commencing one hour prior at 2 p.m. The Rev. Felton Stewart will officiate. Virgle will have a private burial.
