Mara Ralston Obituary

ELMWOOD - Mara Helen Ralston, 99, of Elmwood passed away at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, at Farmington Country Manor.

She was born on Aug. 3, 1914, in Yates City, to Charles and Mary Faxon Hitchcock. Mara married Marlin Watters and later married Thomas Ralston. They both preceded her in death.

Surviving are two children, Neal (Dixie) Watters of Farmington and Jan Richardson of Elmwood; one brother, Leland Hitchcock of Florida; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Also preceding her in death were one sister, Eileen Hitchcock; and one brother, Ted.

She was a graduate of Western Illinois University and taught school in rural schools in Knox County and later taught grade school in Elmwood.

She was a member of the Faith Presbyterian Church of Yates City.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, at the Yates City Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Elmwood Elementary Library, due to her love of teaching, books and children.
