PEORIA - Patrick Allen Parsons, 64, of Peoria passed away at 6:53 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013, at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home.
Patrick was born on July 12, 1949, in Springfield, Mo., to Kenneth and Erma (Hicks) Parsons. He married Linda Potts on Jan. 17, 1970, in Springfield, Mo. She survives.
He is also survived by his children, Brian (Carol) Parsons of Columbus, Ga., Ben Parsons of Marshfield, Mo., and Brigitta (Nathan) Enderle of East Peoria; his grandchildren, Aidan, Declan, Kian and Keira Parsons, Kennedy Parsons and Julia Enderle; and his siblings, Judy (Ed) Mahoney of Council Grove, Kan., Edie (Larry) Herman of Marshfield, Mo., Cathie (Walter) Oberbeck of Chattanooga, Tenn., Steve (Jennifer) Parsons of Ottumwa, Iowa, David (Kate) Parsons of Fairfax Station, Va., Chris (Lisa) Parsons of Marshfield, Mo., Rachel (Dan) Young of Gladstone, Mo., and Joe (Linda) Parsons of Centreville, Va.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Montie "Michael" Parsons.
Patrick grew up on a farm outside Marshfield, Mo. He graduated in 1971 from Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield, Mo. He then served in the U.S. Army from 1971 to 1974. In 1976, he graduated with an MBA from the University of Missouri in Columbia, Mo.
He was the HR Director for the City of Peoria and served as an arbitrator for the Better Business Bureau of Central Illinois for 15 years. He was later Executive Director for Illinois Central College for five years and was an adjunct instructor for Robert Morris College.
Patrick was an active member of the International Public Management Association for Human Resources (IPMA-HR) for 21 years, holding multiple officer positions. He earned certification as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) and was awarded the Barbara Sundquist Distinguished Service Award and the Carl K. Wettengel Achievement Award.
He was an active member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.
Patrick was a loving husband, father and Papa. His greatest pride in life was his family. He enjoyed spending time with his family, teaching his grandchildren, traveling with his wife and visiting extended family.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Father James Pallardy will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, at Wright & Salmon Mortuary, with recitation of the Rosary at 7:45 p.m. An additional visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the Mass at the church. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
