MACOMB - Ralph C. Simmons, age 78, of rural Macomb, Ill., passed away at 10:35 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb, Ill.
He was born on Aug. 4, 1935, in Riner, Va., to Kelly and Essie Bishop Simmons. He married Carol B. Markley in Bushnell, Ill., on Nov. 14, 1958, and she preceded him in death on Feb. 10, 2011.
Ralph is survived by one daughter, Deana (Kenneth D.) Nell of Littleton, Ill.; one sister, Geraldine Allen of Galesburg, Ill.; and special friend, Virginia VanNatta of Bushnell, Ill.
He was also preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Ralph farmed in the McDonough County area most of his life.
He was a member of Bushnell Odd Fellows Lodge 322 and he was also a member of Palomino Horse Breeders of America, where he had won Reserve World Champion and several High Point Honor Roll horses.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, at the Martin-Hollis Funeral Home in Bushnell, Ill., with Pastor Joe Olson officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014, at the funeral home, where friends may call after 2 p.m. on Tuesday. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Macomb, Ill.
