BLOOMINGTON - Shirley A. Pascal, age 96, of Bloomington, Ill., passed away at 2:12 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2014, at Heritage Health in Bloomington, IIl.
Her funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home in Bloomington, Ill. The Rev. Dr. Don Jackson and the Rev. Scott Carnes will officiate. Visitation will be will from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home in Bloomington, Ill. Her graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Riverview Cemetery in Marseilles, Ill. The Rev. Scott Carnes will officiate.
The family suggests memorials be made to First United Methodist Church, 201 N. School St., Normal, Ill.
Shirley was born July 31, 1917, in Grand Ridge, Ill., the daughter of Leo and Edna Applebee Ott. She married Peter Pascal Jr. on May 1, 1937, in Morris, Ill. He passed away in October of 1981.
Surviving are four children, Shirley Mansfield of Peoria, Ill., Rose Pascal of Bloomington, Ill., David (Sue) Pascal of Bloomington, Ill., and Martha (Jerry) Benjamin of Bloomington, Ill.; seven grandchildren, Dan Mansfield of Peoria, Ill., Denise (Tony) Stiltner of Granite Falls, N.C., Thomas (Jamie) Benjamin of Bloomington, Ill., Marcy (Curt) Richardson of Bloomington, Ill., Julie (fiance Ben Goodin) of East Peoria, Ill., Kevin (Summer) Pascal of Peoria Heights, Ill., and Jason (Dani) Pascal of Bloomington, Ill.; eight great-grandchildren, Connor Stiltner of Granite Falls, N.C., Kaylynn Pascal of Peoria Heights, Ill., and Aidan, Atley and Addison Richardson and Ashtyn, Parker and Maddox Pascal of Bloomington, Ill.; and one sister, Delores Kilgore of Longview, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Marie Catherine Pascal; four brothers, Fred, Donald, Robert and Lyle Ott; six sisters, Helen Kesner, Theresa Ott, Bernice Plymire, Velma Benckendorf, Sharon Lowe and Carol Summers; and son-in-law, Leverett Mansfield.
Shirley was educated in LaSalle County rural schools. After marriage, Shirley moved from Grand Ridge to rural Odell, where she and her husband farmed. After retiring from farming, they moved to Pontiac, where she was employed as a cook for Humiston-Haven Retirement Home. In 1986, she moved to Bloomington, where she took pride in maintaining her own home until the age of 91, when she moved to Blair House in Normal, Ill.
As a homemaker, Shirley was a fantastic cook and she enjoyed gardening, sewing and reading.
While living on the farm, Shirley was a member of Esmen Township Sunshine Club. Shirley was a current member of the First United Methodist Church in Normal. She was a longtime member of the United Methodist Women and served on committees for them.
