MORTON - Robert R.B. Backlund (KV9A), 93, of Morton passed away at 2:40 p.m. Sunday, July 6, 2014, at Washington Christian Village.

He was born April 25, 1921, in Bloomington to Andrew Oscar and Mary Florence (Shifflet) Backlund. He married Nadiene Wenderoth on April 23, 1944, in Bloomington.

Surviving are his wife, Nadiene Backlund of Morton; one daughter, Cheri (Alan) Salz of Rome, Ill.; two grandchildren, Arthur Salz and Samantha Park, both of Peoria; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one infant daughter and two brothers.

He was a World War II Navy veteran.

Robert worked at Caterpillar Inc., retiring in 1981 from the purchasing department in East Peoria.

He was a member of the Morton Masonic Lodge 352 AF&AM; Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Peoria; Peoria Consistory; and the Peoria Area Amateur Radio Club.

Robert arranged to have his body donated to the Anatomical Gift Association for scientific study.

Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton is handling arrangements.
