Harry McDaniel
MACOMB - Harry E. McDaniel, 82, of Macomb passed away at 7:08 p.m. Sunday, October 9, 2016, at the Elms Nursing Home in Macomb.
He was born on July 4, 1934, in Peoria to Russel and Harriet Bortel McDaniel. He married Phyllis Long on June 26, 1955, in Havana. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Christopher (Cindy) McDaniel of Macomb and Marc (Diana) McDaniel of Fredericktown, Missouri; one daughter, Melissa (Lance) Vardaman of Macomb; 6 grandchildren, Nicholas (Ellie) McDaniel, Allison (Eric) Veenendaal, Ashley (Nic) Kennedy, Lily Vardaman, Kirsten (Tim) Delaney and Nick Anderson; and 5 great-grandchildren, Aubree Kennedy, Brylee Kennedy, Breea McDaniel, Brody McDaniel and Axel Delaney.
Harry graduated from Havana High School in 1952. He then graduated from Western Illinois University in 1956 with a Business Degree. In 1957, he entered in the U.S. Army, where he was stationed in Chicago.
After completion of his time in the service, he worked for Earl Coplan and eventually opened McDaniel Accounting in 1962. Harry retired in 2006.
Harry was a 60-year member of Macomb Elks Lodge 1009, where he served as Exalted Ruler. He was a member of Macomb Police Pension Board and Macomb Country Club and a 32-year member of the Macomb American Legion. He was president of Independent Accountants Association of Illinois from 1972 to 1973.
Harry enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He loved golf and even accomplished a hole-in-one. He was a devoted St. Louis Cardinal fan, when they were winning. Most of all, Harry enjoyed traveling, doting on his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and golfing with his wife of 61 years, Phyllis.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, October 14, 2016, at Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb, with the Reverend Wally Holt officiating. Elks services will be conducted at the beginning of the service. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Macomb.
Memorials may be made to Elks Children's Care Corporation, Elms Nursing Home Activity Fund or Emmet-Chalmers Fire Department.
