Zulmira L. Sousa

Zulmira was born on the Azores island of Pico, Portugal. She peacefully passed at her home in Lincoln, Calif., at the age of 82. She was a cherished mother to Herculano, Laurino, and Dena; a loving grandmother to Mario Jr., Malisa, Leanna, David, Lauren and Anthony; and a beloved great-grandmother to Brandon, Andy, Jordon, and Julian.
She was preceded in death by her adored husband of 52 years, Antonio Sousa; her parents, Joao Castro and Laurentina Laranjo; her daughter, Maria; her son, Mario; son-in-law, Scott; and grandson, Jonathan.
She bravely came to America to join her husband in 1966 with her three young sons. When in America, she was a very hard worker: picking fruit, working in the packing houses as well as canneries, and being a full time grandma by taking care of her grandkids. She was a flavorful cook of wonderful Portuguese food. Her loving kisses and beautiful smile will be greatly missed.
She was a member of the Placer County Holy Ghost Association, St. Joseph Catholic Church and Alter Society, St. Isabel's S.P.R.S.I. and Lincoln Women's club.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 28, 2012 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Saint Joseph's Church, 280 Oak Tree Lane, Lincoln followed by a rosary at 7 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph's Church on Friday, June 29, 2012 at 10 a.m. with burial immediately following at Newcastle District Cemetery with a luncheon following at St. Joseph's hall.
