MARYSVILLE — Larry L. Phelps, 65, of Milford Center, died unexpectedly Tuesday evening, Dec. 24, 2013, at OSU Hospital in Columbus surrounded by his family.

He was a longtime farmer and entrepreneur in Milford Center, was a leader in the community by his service to others and was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, mentor and friend.

A 1966 graduate of Fairbanks High School. Larry also attended OSU and Urbana University. He was a proud supporter of student athletics at Fairbanks and was one of the original founding members of the Touchdown Club. His depth of devotion to the youth of the community was also exhibited in his involvement with 4-H and the 4-H livestock sale every year at the Union County Fair. He was an avid OSU basketball and football fan but his greatest enjoyment in life came from attending and supporting his grandchildren in all their activities.

Larry was born Feb. 24, 1948 in Columbus, to the late Damon D. "Dick" and Virginia F. Adams Phelps.

He was also preceded in death by a nephew, Justin Phelps; father- and mother-in-law, Herbert and Evelyn Blumenschein; and a sister-in-law, Pam Blumenschein.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Jenny L. Blumenschein Phelps whom he married Nov. 28, 1970 at St. Johns Lutheran Church; their children, Lori L. (Brian) Lee of Plain City, Doug A. (Tricia) Phelps, Brian D. (Summer) Phelps, both of Milford Center; seven grandchildren, Jenna, Brice, Reid (Little Larry), Cooper, Jaden, Jaxen, Sasha; brothers, Dale (Kaye) Phelps, Alan (Darlene) Phelps, both of Milford Center; a sister, Marsha McCreary of Henderson, Nevada; nieces and nephews, Damon and Greg Phelps, Richard Phelps and his children Kate and Chasie, Cheri (Chris) Nicol and their children Keagan and Sydney; Michelle and Marc McCreary; a brother-in-law, Dick (Lynda) Blumenschein of Marysville; and extended family.

Calling hours were held from 1-3 and 5-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 27 at the INGRAM FUNERAL HOME, 975 N. Maple St., Marysville, with funeral services to be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013 at St. Johns Lutheran Church with the Rev. Jack Heino officiating. Burial will follow at the Milford Center Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Impact 60 (a youth mentoring program) or the Wounded Warriors Project in care of the funeral home.
