PLAIN CITY — Charles William "Dee" Miller, 84, of Plain City, and longtime resident of Jerome, died Thursday, March 20, 2014 peacefully at home.

Dee was born Feb. 20, 1930 in Jerome to Charles A. and Hazel (Andrews) Miller.

Dee retired after 41 years from the Nippert Co. in Delaware, Ohio where he was a tool and die maker. In retirement Dee became an expert in woodworking and used his skills to create many beautiful pieces of furniture and other heirlooms from a variety of beautiful and exotic woods which his family and friends will forever cherish. He was a faithful member and friend to the Jerome United Methodist Church, the Jerome Men's Group, and the Hilltop Y's Men's Club.

Dee and his wife of 63 years Gerri (Evans), whom he married June 30, 1950 in Columbus, Ohio, moved together from Columbus to Jerome in 1955. There, over the next 50 years, they built their home and raised five children together. Over the years Dee enjoyed golfing, bowling, gardening, and was an avid fisherman on Lake Erie and in the Canadian wilderness. In addition Dee and Gerri were always avid Buckeyes and fans of OSU sports and most especially the band, eventually proudly having grandchildren participating in each.

Dee is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Betty McGinnis; and brother, Jim.

In addition to Gerri, Dee is survived by children, Cathy (Rick) Spain of Milford Center, Ohio, Chuck (Cathey) Miller of Indian Lake, Ohio, Gary (Cyndie) Miller of Bellville, Ohio, Tom (Debbie) Miller of Plain City, Ohio, and DeeAnn (Dan) King of Shawnee Hills, Ohio; grandchildren are, Jason (Michelle) Jeffers, Janel (Harland) Smyers, Aaron (Vonna) Spain, Ann Spain, Brittany (Chris), Brook, Jessica (Del), Zach Yeager, Seth (Ashley), Jared, Carissa (Joe) Mazzola, Hannah, Chris (Heather), Cody (Katie), Charlie, Katie, and Holly; great-grandchildren are, Alex (Miranda), Abi (Emily), Andrew, Adam, Matthew, Killian, Allison, Sam, Isaac, Elizabeth. In addition Dee has many loved and cherished nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

The family will receive friends from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, March 23, at FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 202 E. Main St. (state Route 161 W.), Plain City. Funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 24, 2014, at Jerome United Methodist Church, 10531 Jerome Road, Plain City. Pastor David Cady officiating. Burial Jerome Township Cemetery.
