Billy Doyle Beggs was born November 29, 1945, in Brownfield, TX, to Bernetta and George H. Beggs and died February 21, 2010, in Lubbock, TX, at the University Medical Center. Bill grew up at Plains, TX, and Milnesand, NM, graduating from high school in Dora in 1965. In 1966, he was drafted into the Army and served most of his two year term in Germany. Soon after he returned, he married Patricia Helmer on July 11, 1968. For the first two years of their marriage, Bill worked in the oil fields and they lived in Tatum. About 1970, he came back to work with his Dad and brothers. For most of the next 25 years, he worked in the oil fields and farmed and ranched with his family. In 1996, he retired from the oil fields and did mostly ranching from that time on. Bill had a shop at his house where he enjoyed doing metal and wood working. However, his main joy came from his grandchildren, especially when he was able to watch his granddaughter and his great-nieces and nephews in their Little Wranglers events. Bill was a member of the Church of Christ, but he and his wife attended the Calvary Baptist Church.
He is survived by Patricia, his wife of more than 41 years; a son and daughter-in-law, George and Shana Beggs of Portales and a daughter and son-in-law, Shawn and Jon Bohm of Portales; four grandchildren, Leslie and Bryce Bohm and Treyton and Raigan Beggs; three brothers, Hillrey Beggs and Willie Beggs both of Portales and Jim Beggs of Lovington, NM, and three sisters, Onetha Little of Tatum, NM, Ivy Allison of Portales and Shirleen Kizer of Pep.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
