1934 - 2011 | Obituary Condolences
Funeral services for Jimmy Rogers, 77, of Portales will be at 10:00 AM, Monday in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with Dee Teel officiating.  Burial will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery with Robert Fear, Shaun Fear, Daniel Fear, Justin Adkins, Chris Adkins, and Brandon Adkins serving as pallbearers.  The Dora Senior Citizens, the Shearer Bus Co. drivers and all of his other many friends will be honorary pallbearers.  Memorial contributions may be sent to either the New Mexico Christian Children's Home or the Baptist Children's Home.  Mr. Rogers will be available for visitation until 6:00 PM, Sunday.
James L. Rogers was born August 3, 1934, in Dickens, TX, to the home of Nona and Riley E. Rogers and died August 25, 2011, in Santa Fe, NM.  When he was 6 years old his family moved to a farm in the Garrison community.  Jimmy graduated from Dora High School, and farmed in the Dora area for several years.  Later he had a dairy near Portales.  For many years he did house calls for television repair.  In 1963, he began driving for his brother Riley, and continued driving milk trucks for AMPI after they bought the company.  Jimmy retired in 1996.   For another five years, he drove a school bus for Shearer Bus Co.
On June 14, 1963 in Portales, he was married to Jessie Adkins.  About a year later they moved to Dora.  In addition to driving his truck, he was a member of the Volunteer Fire Department, and also helped with the city water system.  In 1977, he moved to Portales.  He was a member of the Brazos Street Church of Christ.  He and Jessie enjoyed the fellowship of the Dora Senior Citizens and camping with their family and friends.  He also like doing small woodworking projects like shadowboxes and curio shelves.
He is survived by Jessie Rogers, his wife of 48 years, of their home; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Charles and Judy Rogers of Maxwell, NM, Donnie Rogers of Clovis, Gary Adkins of Portales, and Steve and Laura Adkins of Portales; son-in-law, Darrell Fear of Artesia; nine grandchildren, Chris Hill, Nikki, Justin, Chris, Jessica and Brandon Adkins, and Daniel, Shaun and Robert Fear and two great-grandchildren, Jazzlin and Deckland Fear; and a sister, Leon Reynolds of Portales. 
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Riley, Marvin, and Dale Rogers; four sisters, Betty Rowland, Clema Phillips, Avis Lewis, and Ina Littlefield; a great-grandchild, Cayden Adkins, and a daughter, Diane Fear who died in 2008.
