1917 – 2012
Mildred Kolegraff Strohm, 95, of Rancho Bernardo, passed away on Thursday, November 29, 2012. She was the fifth of seven children born on the family farm in Zell, South Dakota, to William and Emma Kolegraff. After completing grammar school in Zell, she attended North High School in Minneapolis. Following high school, she moved to Southern California where she worked as a receptionist at Lockheed Aircraft and where she met the love of her life, her husband, Paul. After they married in 1947, she moved with him as his career took them from Burbank, New York, and Kansas City before they retired in Rancho Bernardo in 1985.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Paul R. Strohm; her parents; two brothers, Clement and Sylvester; and sister, Rosella. She is survived by her sister, Mary Molander of Downey, CA; and brothers, Al Kolegraff of Santa Rosa, CA, and Arthur Kolegraff of Watertown, SD. Also surviving her are her son, Greg (Joan) of Grand Blanc, MI; daughters, Carole (Jack) Holcomb of Avondale Estates, GA, and Maureen (Chad) Schumacher of Pasadena, CA; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Mildred was committed to serving the Lord through her unwavering devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. She served as a Eucharistic Minister and taught religious education (CCD and RCIA). She was most proud of her work with Mother Teresa's Co-workers, co-founding chapters with her husband in their parishes in Parkville, MO, and Rancho Bernardo (San Rafael), CA. In 1985, she and Paul were invested into the Knights and Ladies of the Holy Sepulcher.
The family appreciates the care and devotion Mildred received from the team at the Remington Club Assisted Living Center while she lived there with her husband, Paul, for the past three years, her team of caregivers from Good Samaritan Home Care and the nurses from Odyssey Hospice.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 4, 2012, at San Rafael Church in Rancho Bernardo with the Vigil Prayer Service to be held at 6:30 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at San Rafael Church. The committal will be private at Mission San Luis Rey Cemetery in Oceanside.
