Our beloved David Prewett died on October 15, 2012, at 8:20am from prostate cancer, surrounded by his family and in the comfort of his home. David was born on September 15, 1939, in Fort Payne, to the late Elmer S. and Hazel E. Prewett. He grew up in Fort Payne, attending DeKalb County High School, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Howard College, now Samford University, in Birmingham, Alabama. He earned a Master's degree in Theology from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky.
In 1970, David moved to San Diego, California, and served as a minister and family counselor to the San Diego and El Centro communities. In the mid 1970s, David entered the commercial real estate field. In 1994, he purchased a Century 21 office in Poway and joined the Poway Chamber of Commerce, and in 1997 he opened Pomerado Real Estate Services. David was a life-time member of the San Diego and California Association of Realtors. He served on the Board of Directors for the Poway Chamber of Commerce from 1994 until 2012. He was Chairman of the Board of Directors in 2001-2002.
David and his wife, Carole, resided in Scripps Ranch where David was a member of several development planning committees. He was a loyal University of Alabama football fan – every fall one could hear a mighty "ROLL-TIDE!" coming from the Prewett home. And he always enjoyed a meal with friends at the Hamburger Factory in Old Town Poway.
David was beloved by his family. He is survived by his wife, Carole; son, Jase (Pamela) Prewett of San Diego; son, David Christopher (Katherine) Flesh of San Jose, California; daughter, Elizabeth Flesh of San Diego; sister, Janice (Norman) Clapp of Blairsville, Georgia; and six grandchildren.
A memorial service will take place on Monday, October 22, 2012, at 10:30am at Good Samaritan Episcopal Church, 4321 Eastgate Mall, San Diego, CA 92121. A reception at the church will follow.
