Robert E. Moran

Bob died peacefully at home on November 21, 2013, following a brief illness, at age 85. He was born in 1928 to C.A. and Marguerite Moran in Clarksburg, WV, and grew up in Fostoria, OH. Bob graduated from Bowling Green State University in Ohio in 1951 and served in the U. S. Army in California during the Korean War.
Bob is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jane; son, Kevin; daughter, Suzanne; sister, Nancy Bodell; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by daughter, Sheila, and sisters, Jane Burke and Susan Moran.
After 13 years in Cleveland, OH, with Union Carbide, Bob was transferred to Greenville, SC, and then in 1968 to San Diego. He retired from General Dynamics Electronic Division in 1993.
Bob coached and umpired Rancho Bernardo Girls Softball for 25 years and then was an umpire in the North County ASA league for 10 years. After retirement, Bob joined the SHOK/OASIS program where he tutored 3rd graders at Chaparral School for 12 years. He collected food every Wednesday for 10 years for the St. Vincent de Paul program at St. Michael's Church helping those less fortunate. As a member of St. Michaels Church in Poway, Bob was named a Eucharistic Minister in the first group to distribute Holy Communion at Mass. He was a member of St. Michael's for 45 years and was co-chair of the yearly festival in the early days of the parish.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, December 9, 2013, at 12 noon at St. Michael's Catholic Church, 15546 Pomerado Rd., Poway, with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Life Choices, 13412 Pomerado Rd., Poway, or St. Michael's Church Holy Family Center.
