Bill Barsch, born on July 8, 1947, passed away peacefully at his home in Ramona, CA, on February 17, 2014. His wife Mary and family were by his side. Bill was born in Chula Vista, CA, where he and Mary lived before moving to Ramona in 1989. He attended Chula Vista High School and graduated from San Diego State University. He also earned a certificate in computer science from Coleman College in San Diego which led him to a teaching position at the Center for Employment Training.
Bill served four years in the Navy and spent three years of his service in Japan and one year in Washington, D.C. Bill loved visiting the aviation museum at Miramar, the Midway and air shows at Miramar and other smaller airports in San Diego.
In 1986, Bill went to work for Sweetwater Authority, a municipal water district in the South Bay. He loved his work at SWA and enjoyed a long career and built many lasting relationships during his employment. He retired from SWA in 2011.
Bill and Mary were married on May 17, 1980. They met at a health club in Chula Vista and throughout their lives together they realized the importance of exercise. They continued their belief in fitness through exercise at various health clubs and gained many friends through fitness in Ramona. Bill also found a new side of himself when he began Yoga about two years ago. He enjoyed the outdoors and loved camping, hiking and biking. Bill loved working outside, including gardening, working with anything mechanical, woodworking, his tractors and different types of machinery and hobbies.
Bill had an amazing knowledge of so many things and enjoyed a variety of interests and hobbies. He loved sharing his knowledge and helping other people.
Bill is survived by his wife, Mary of Ramona; sister, Ann Welker; brother-in-law, Alfred Welker; niece, Susan Welker; nephew, Brian Welker; niece Melanie Santamaria; and nephew, Michael Floersch. He is also survived by many in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who love him dearly.
Bill touched many people with his kindness and contagious smile. He will be missed by so many people and he is the love of Mary's life.
Everyone is welcome to say goodbye to Bill at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in Point Loma on Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at 11:30am.
