TIFFIN: Barbara A. Wittmann, 79, of Tiffin, passed away Thursday morning, May 2, 2013 at Elmwood at the Shawhan.
She was born on September 23, 1933, in Fremont, Ohio, to Harry and Ruth (Burns) Meggitt. She first married James Burden and he preceded her in death. In 1959, she married Karl Wittmann, in St. Joseph Church, Tiffin, and he preceded her in death on February 7, 2007.
Survivors include two daughters, Sandra (Ron) Burns of Tiffin and Peggy (Andy) Post of Evergreen, CO; five grandchildren, Corey, Randy and Tim Spencer and Riley and Alexandria Wittmann; two step grandchildren, Ryan and Sara Burns; and four great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents.
Barbara graduated in 1951 from Green Springs High School and attended Tiffin University. She held secretarial positions at Whirlpool Corporation, Tiffin Chamber OFD Commerce, Tiffin City Hall and Calvert High School and retired from The Seneca County Opportunity Center in 1995. Barbara was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church the Rosary Altar Society and was a member of the Port Clinton Elks #1718 and the Port Clinton Moose Lodge 1610. Upon retirement, she and Karl moved to Port Clinton and enjoyed the lake, golf and their new parish. Her interest included visiting nursing homes, helping the needy and loving all of nature and being active in the Seneca County Humane Society for over twenty years. She also enjoyed polka dances. Barbara loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Her Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The Rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to the Mass. Friends may visit and share stories with the family from 11:00 A.M. to 12:45 P.M. on Wednesday at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S.
