Dwight Benjamin Ellis

COLUMBUS: Dwight Benjamin Ellis, 94, of Columbus April 14, 2013 at Wesley Glen Retirement Community.

Born May 28, 1918 in Columbus to the late Benjamin and Edna Ellis. After several moves in Columbus to renovate houses the family moved to Akron following his mother's death. He graduated from Akron West High School in January 1936. His love for music and playing the bass fiddle led him to travel with the big bands across the country. He married the love of his life, Ruth Elizabeth Lawrence, his Ruthie, forming a wonderful and supportive couple for 66 years.

He graduated from Benjamin Franklin University, Washington D.C., after which he became a special agent with the F.B.I. He served in many cities becoming Special Agent in Charge for the Akron office before retiring after 30 dedicated years. The next day he became Director of Lakeside, Ohio. With Ruthie by his side, they enjoyed meeting and hosting wonderful people who enriched their lives. Dwight became clerk of Marblehead, OH after his second retirement and became a member of the Wesley Glen Community 19 years ago with Ruthie. Wherever Dwight lived he immersed himself in the community and became a leader. His family, friendships and Christian ideals were of utmost importance to him. He will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and loving soul. He was a member of the International Association of Conference Center Administrators, Peninsula Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis and North Broadway United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, Dwight was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ruth; sister, Helen (Howard) Brown; brothers, Harold (Betty) and David (Gerti) Ellis; great-grandson Gage Ellis.

Dwight will be missed by his loving children, Lawrence (Peggy) Ellis and Nancy (Bruce) Draudt; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren with another expected soon; step-sisters, Frances (Eugene, deceased) Rohrich and Marge (Don) Belden and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 20, 2013 at Union Cemetery by family friend Rev. Jeffery Matthews, 3349 Olentangy River Road, Columbus.
