SANDUSKY: Lewis "Lew" C. Laffey, 76, Sandusky, died Monday, July 28, 2014, in Firelands Regional Medical Center, following a lengthy illness.
Lewis was born August 24, 1937, in Port Clinton, and was a 1955 graduate of Port Clinton High School. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1956-1959 and later retired after many years from Albertson's Food Stores in California. He was a member of American Legion Post, the Sandusky Eagles, Port Clinton Elks Lodge 1718, and was a life member of the Sandusky AMVETS. Lew loved all things Buckeye, especially Ohio State football.
Lewis is survived by his son, John (Becky) Laffey of Texas; step-daughter, Pam Painter of India; grandchildren, Cary Laffey and Michael Thoma, step-granddaughter, Starla Prem Blossom, great-granddaughter, Aubree, sisters, Judith Gunther of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Kathleen (Edward) Stover of Port Clinton; brother, Daniel (Vicki) Laffey of Port Clinton; special neighbor, Herminia Kalasek; and faithful friend, Ace.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis J. Laffey; his parents, William and Catherine (O'Hern) Laffey; and son, Michael S. Laffey.
A gathering to celebrate Lew's life will be held Friday, August 1, 2014 from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. in Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. American Legion Honor Guard will provide military services.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Erie County Humane Society.
