MARBLEHEAD: Robert C. Shellhammer Jr., 70, residing in both Marblehead and Bradenton, FL, passed away early Sunday morning, April 15, 2012 at Providence Care Center after a lengthy illness.

Robert was born on June 27, 1941 in Hattisburg, MS to the late Robert and Helen (Schutt) Shellhammer. He was a retired boilermaker working through the Union Local 85 out of Rossford, Ohio for 30 years of service.

He was a member of the Paragon Masonic Lodge out of Toledo, Ohio, and Woodbine OES.

Robert is survived by one daughter, Sherri Shellhammer of Toledo, OH; three sons, Robert Shellhammer III of NC, David Shellhammer of Toledo, OH, and Michael Shellhammer of NC; three sisters, Jeannine (Jack) Hardy of Swanton, OH, Marcia Krieg of Fenton, MI, and Patricia (John) Spears of Oregon, OH; 19 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two brothers, Thomas Shellhammer of FL, and Steven Shellhammer of GA; step-daughters, April Shanke of Port Clinton, Sherry Gurtz of Fort Meyers, FL, and Kim Hernandes of St. Augusta, FL; step-son, David Lawson of Dayton, OH; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Robert is preceded in death by his wife, Edith (Burkhart) Shellhammer; and sons, Joseph and John Shellhammer.

Friends may call from 4-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky. The Perseverance Lodge will conduct a Masonic service at 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Pastor John Adams of New Life Church officiating. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery.
