FINDLAY: Wilbur Leland Woodward, 88, of Findlay passed away at 11:35 p.m. on Friday, June 21, 2013 at Birchaven Village, Findlay.
He was born on April 7, 1925, to the late William Elmer and Mary Elizabeth (Swihart) Woodward in Hancock County. He married Laura Maxine Williams on April 17, 1947, and she preceded him in death on August 2, 2004.
Wilbur is survived by his companion, Ardith Gaines; daughters: Sharon Busick of Ashland, KY and Carol (Joseph) Murkos of Findlay; grandsons: Kevin (Heather) Busick, a granddaughter, Beth (Josh) Sterling; great-granddaughters: Kylie Jade Busick, Kennedy Sterling and twin great-grandsons: Landon and Logan Howell all of Ashland, Ky; grandsons: Jeffery Murkos, Jonathon Murkos and granddaughters: Holly Murkos; and great-grandsons: Evan, Andrew and Grayson all of Findlay; step-granddaughters: Jennifer Byrd of Weston, Nadea (Andrew) Minet of Toledo; and step-great grandchildren, Breanna, Caleb and Payton Byrd and Ethan Lindquist; and many special nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brothers: Kenneth, Ithel, Clifford and Irvin Woodward and by sisters: Ruby Foltz and Treva Hindall.
Wilbur was a 1944 graduate of Mt. Cory High School. He worked for and retired from Blanchard Valley Hospital as chief boiler engineer after 31 years of service. He was a member of Howard United Methodist Church, Findlay. Lee, as he was known to most friends and family, was a life member of the NRA, Conservation Club and Field and Stream Bow Hunters Club. He loved the outdoors, spending countless hours gun hunting, bow hunting, fishing and boating. Some will remember him as an avid hunter who won awards in his younger years. He was also an enthusiastic home gardener. Also known as Harmonic Lee, he enjoyed playing the harmonica for residents of Birchaven Village, The Heritage and Arlington Good Samaritan Nursing Homes and area steam engine shows.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 from 2:00 - 4:00 & 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 27, 2013 at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME with Pastor Jennifer Burns officiating. Burial will follow in Knollcrest Gardens, east of Findlay.
