MISHAWAKA, IN: Charles R. Carstens 63, of Mishawaka passed away November 4, 2012 at his home. He was born January 17, 1949 to Frank and Harriet (Brakeman) Carstens in Port Clinton Ohio. On May 29, 1971 in New Castle, PA he married Lynn Schreiner.

Surviving is his wife Lynn Carstens; daughter Stephanie (Brian) Glore; and three grandchildren Alexis, Kyle and Owen; also surviving are his brother David (Becky) Carstens of Alabama; and his sister Mary Jane (Dick) Kinyon of Montana.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Thomas Carstens; and sister Susan Carstens.

As a child Charles was an Eagle Scout. He also played football in high school and was All State in Ohio where he also received a full scholarship to Bowling Green for football. Charles was also a Bowling Green University graduated and a graduate of The Culinary Institute of America. He spent his life mentoring others in the food service business, as well as maintaining a successful career in food service as a formerly owner of Berkley's Restaurant in New Castle, PA.

He enjoyed golfing with his son-in-law, spending time with his family, but his biggest enjoyment in life was his three grandchildren. Charles was a devoted husband of 41 years, loving father to his daughter, &and a proud and loving Papa to his three grandchildren.

There will be a Celebration of Life service for Charles at Zimmerman-Inman Funeral Inman on Thursday, November 8, 2012 with an hour of visitation prior to the 1:00 pm service.
