Ethel Gash


SOUTH PORTSMOUTH, KY – Ethel M. Gash, 101, of South Portsmouth, KY, was called home by her Lord on Sunday, February 23, 2014, at the SOMC Hospice Center in Portsmouth, OH. She was a remarkable and resilient lady who fully enjoyed her 101 years and whose life centered on family. Born in Bruin, KY, in Elliott County on March 20, 1912, to the late John Stephenson and Loucina Kegley Stephenson, she relocated to the South Portsmouth area in her early years and remained there all her life. She was an employee of the Selby Shoe Company for a number of years before leaving to raise a family. A member of the First Baptist Church of South Shore, KY, she received many accolades on her longevity from the Kentucky General Assembly and State and Federal officials which she valued greatly.

She was preceded in death by her husband Autie Gash in April 1972; her brother, Adrian Stephenson, William Stephenson, Lynn Stephenson and Cecil Stephenson; and sisters, Irene Hacker and Carmen Hall.

She is survived by one son, Daniel Gash and wife Debra of South Portsmouth, KY; and several nieces and nephews that she dearly loved.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, February 26, 2014, at Morton Funeral Home in South Shore with Mark Lilly officiating. Burial will be in Siloam Cemetery in South Shore.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from noon until the time of services at the funeral home.
