James Holbrook


SOUTH SHORE, KY – James D. Holbrook Jr., 81, of South Shore, KY, went to be with the lord at 12:16 a.m. Friday, February 21, 2014, surrounded by his loving family in the comfort of his home after an extended illness.

He was born May 28, 1932, at Wingo Creek, KY, a son of the late James D. Holbrook Sr. and Emma Hardin Holbrook. He was the grandson of James and America Fields Hardin and John and Lucinda Huff Holbrook. He was also preceded in death by a sister Betty Foit.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Guyneth Wells Holbrook; daughters, Connie Holbrook of South Shore, Tamara Holbrook of South Shore, Betty (Lonnie) Jordan of South Shore and Angela (Bob) Castle of Lucasville, OH; one sister, Marilee Abrams of South Shore; 10 grandchildren, Aaron (Melissa) Wolfe, Tabatha Wireman, Brandon (Raven) Wolfe, Matthew Wireman, Shaea Duncan, Samantha Yelley-(Eddie) Coleman, Whitney (Anthony) Crabtree, James Wireman, Dessa Horn and Morgan Castle; four great-grandchildren, Jaden Duncan, Wyatt Wolfe, Bobby Sizemore and Blaze Wolfe; and Randy, Angie and Brady Stone of Argillite, Ky., who were very dear to him.

James served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. In 1994 he retired from Didier Taylor Brick Yard in South Shore after 28 years of service. He was a member of the New Bethlehem Methodist Church at Schultz Creek, KY. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed four wheeling, boating, fishing and camping.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 23, 2014, at Morton Funeral Home in South Shore with Robert Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Harr Cemetery in Greenup Co., KY, with military graveside rites. Visitation will be Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. until time of services.
