Lucy Spriggs Sperry
Lucy Spriggs Sperry, 102, of South Shore, Ky., passed away Thursday, August 1, 2013, at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky.
She was born December 12, 1910, to the late D.W. "Butch" Spriggs and Martha Sparks Spriggs in York, Ky.
Lucy was a member of Allen Chapel Church of Christ in Maloneton, Ky., a retired school teacher having taught 41 years in the Greenup County School System spanning the time from one-room schools to consolidated schools. She was a Kentucky Colonel and was a 60-year member of the Radiance Chapter of Eastern Star#427.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, John P. Sperry; a sister, Ruth Spriggs Holbrook; a son-in-law Michael Hicken, three half-brothers, Charles, Howard and Floyd Spriggs, two half-sisters, Mary Spriggs (Arthur) Bradley, Flora Spriggs (Earl) Bradley; and a step-grandson Robert Hicken.
Surviving are two daughters, Joan (Kenneth) Prater of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, and Donna Hicken of Chantilly, Virginia; a grandson, David Prater of Reynoldsburg and a granddaughter Leanne (Craig) Rex; two great-grandsons, Matthew and Evan Rex, all of Hilliard, Ohio; two step-grandsons, David Hicken of Rochester Hills, Michigan, and James Hicken of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania.
Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday. August 4, 2013. at Morton Funeral Home in South Shore, Ky., with Harold Dupuy officiating. Burial will be in Siloam Cemetery in South Shore. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m.
