PORTSMOUTH-Mary Lou Wallace, 85, of Portsmouth, died Saturday, August 9, 2014 at her residence. She was born August 15,1928 at Portsmouth, the daughter of the late Edwin and Anna Glockner Von Luhrte.
Mary Lou was a graduate of Ohio University and a devoted teacher, having taught at Garfield and Lincoln schools; a life long member of St Mary Catholic Church and a member of Citizens for Good Government, St Joseph Monastery Guild ,and Mercy Hospital Guild. She loved her home, garden, and reading to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving are her children Stephen Wallace of San Francisco and Karen (John) DiTraglia of Portsmouth; her grandchildren Mary Beth (Matt) Mader of Portsmouth, Tim Thacker of Cincinnati, Keri (Ron) Nelson of Lucasville, Maggie (Andy) Hill of Dublin, Chris (Renee) Wallace of Portsmouth, Michelle (Jacob) Emnett of Portsmouth, Leigh Ann (Bill) DeHaas of Sardinia; great-grandchildren Matthew, Michael and Ben Mader, Olivia and Kathryn Nelson, Owen and Hayden Hill, Alexendra, Charlotte and Michael Wallace, Logan and Landon Emnett ,and Elliot DeHaas; one brother John (Ursla) Von Luhtre of North Canton.
She was also preceded in death by one son Michael Wallace and beloved aunts Helen M. Glockner, Louise Glockner and Sister Thomas Aquin. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, August 14, 2014 at 1:00P.M. at St Mary Catholic Church with Rev Adam Streitenberger officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may call at Melcher Funeral Home from 11:00A.M to 12:30 P.M. on Thursday. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to SOMC Hospice and St Mary Catholic Church.
